Zortrax Apoller – Intelligent Steam Sanding

Zortrax Apoller is a desktop intelligent steam sanding device that offers industrial-class performance. Every aspect of a sanding process is managed by proprietary algorithms to achieve the appearance of FDM 3D printed models on par with injection molded items.

How the proprietary SVS technology removes visible layering

Smart Vapor Smoothing (SVS) technology smoothly smoothes surfaces on all types of models, including those with complex geometries and interconnected moving parts. It is performed through automatic management of the temperature, pressure and concentration of solvent vapors in the Apoller smoothing chamber.

Zortrax Apoller can smooth models printed on all FDM, FFF, LPD and LPD Plus 3D printers. The device is compatible with ABS, HIPS and ASA-based filaments, regardless of manufacturer. Just remember to use only pure acetone or pure MEK as solvents.

Automatic steam sanding is simple and safe enough to be performed by untrained personnel.

Vacuum system

Zortrax Apoller’s vacuum system prevents the pressure inside the sanding chamber from exceeding the pressure outside it even after the solvent has been vaporized. This is why the vapors are retained inside the chamber instead of being pushed out of it.

Advanced circulation system
and condensation of vapors

The vapors in the Zortrax Apoller sanding chamber circulated upward to evenly cover the models. Fragile and intricate details are coated with less solvent to keep their shape intact. Once done, the condensation system recovers excess solvent that can be reused.

Advanced security system

With carefully designed redundancy in the system, Zortrax Apoller offers industrial-class reliability. The device is doubly sealed from the environment. At all times the pressure inside the sanding chamber is kept below the pressure in the room. In addition to the double seals, this is an additional level of redundancy in the safety system that prevents fumes from escaping from the smoothing chamber. It also keeps the chamber closed in the event of a correntetage interruption that causes the electromagnetic lock to stop. When the power comes back on, Zortrax Apoller automatically decontaminates the chamber before allowing anyone to open it.

ATEX Certification

The safety systems are certified to meet the high standards required by ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU, which regulates equipment intended for use in explosive atmospheres.

Each unit requires an annual inspection conducted at Zortrax headquarters to maintain valid EU ATEX certification and ensure safe operation of the device.
