The Formlabs Form Studio 1 is a desktop resin 3D printer with a Low Force Displayâ„¢ (LFD) print engine, masked stereolithography (MSLA) technology that cures resin layer by layer with 405 nm light. It is designed as a precision tool for design studios, labs, workshops, and product development teams that want to create prototypes and detailed parts with a simple workflow, from file preparation to finished print.
The resolution in the XY plane is 35 microns pixel size with pre-calibrated anti-aliasing, while the layer thickness is adjustable between 25 and 300 microns: you can choose between maximum detail and maximum speed depending on the project. Support structures are automatically generated by PreForm software and are designed for low-impact removal, which leaves minimal marks on the part.
Resin managed automatically
The Form Studio 1 uses a resin cartridge with an automated dosing system: during printing, the machine fills the tray and maintains its level thanks to the LevelSense sensor, without manual spills. The resin is heated directly to a temperature between 25 and 45 °C, depending on the material, for constant printing conditions. The sensors check the presence of the platform, tray and cartridge before each print.
Two trays, for different needs
Two types of trays are available. The Form Studio 1 Resin Tank is optimized for Form Studio 1 General Purpose resins, with fast prints, great detail, and surface finish; it is not compatible with all Formlabs resins (e.g., the Tough family) or third-party resins. The Form Studio 1 Resin Tank Pro is optimized for compatibility: it prints with all supported Formlabs resins and is required to use Open Material Mode. The build platform is also available in two versions: standard with a matte aluminum surface, or Flex with a flexible surface for easier part peeling.
Control, Monitoring and Connectivity
The built-in touchscreen shows print status, job queue, history, and favorites. The built-in Full HD camera (1920 × 1080) allows you to follow the print from the app and review timelapses. The machine connects via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or USB-C. With the online printer, you can use the Formlabs Form Mobile app to monitor prints, view the camera, control the machine remotely, and view timelapses and history, and the Formlabs Dashboard to monitor printers remotely and track material consumption.
Post-processing and working environment
The workflow includes washing and post-curing with Form Studio Wash+Cure, Form Wash, and Form Cure, or Formlabs-approved large-format systems. For volatile organic compound extraction, the VOC Extractor is available as an accessory, which connects to the rear drain port: combined with Form Studio 1 and Alpha resins, it is UL Greenguard certified.

Which tray should I choose?
If you’re working with Form Studio 1’s General Purpose resins, the standard tub will do. If you need all supported Formlabs resins (such as the Tough family) or Open Material Mode, choose the Pro version.
How much space do I need to install it?
The printer measures 34.2 × 31.5 × 50.2 cm, but Formlabs recommends reserving at least 36 × 33 × 79 cm for convenient access, plus space for post-processing.
Can I control it remotely?
Yes: connected to the network you can follow the print from the Formlabs Dashboard or from the Form Mobile app, with camera view, timelapse and print history.
Do you need a vapour extractor?
Not included, but available as an accessory, is the VOC Extractor, which plugs into the printer’s rear exhaust port.
